Question 1

Should I consider a home addition or an ADU?

Accepted Answer

An addition expands the main home. An accessory dwelling unit (ADU) provides a separate living unit on the property. Start with how you want to use the space; MIR can discuss the options and coordinate the property review and design process.

Question 2

How can I find out whether an ADU is feasible on my property?

Accepted Answer

MIR first evaluates the property and discusses your goals. We then coordinate directly with the architect and local planning department to manage design, feasibility, and permitting. The proposed project is reviewed before its scope is finalized.

Question 3

Do I need an architect or completed plans before contacting MIR?

Accepted Answer

You can contact us at the ideas stage or with plans already underway. MIR helps develop ideas and layouts and coordinates with architects. Tell us what you have completed so we can discuss the next steps.

Question 4

What does MIR handle during an addition or ADU project?

Accepted Answer

We coordinate planning, design, feasibility, permit applications, and construction. Wilber and the MIR team work with the architect and local planning department as the project moves from your goals to an agreed construction scope.

Question 5

What affects the budget and schedule for an addition or ADU?

Accepted Answer

The size and layout, site conditions, connection to the existing property, design choices, and permitting process affect planning. We develop the estimate and proposed schedule around the project details instead of using one figure for every property.

Question 6

Can I see addition and ADU work in progress?

Accepted Answer

Yes. This page's project gallery includes examples of foundation preparation and framing. Share your goals and property information with the team to discuss how the planning and construction stages would apply to your project.
